INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATION OF FUNCTIONING, DISABILITY AND HEALTH (ICF) IN PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS

Апстракт:
Rehabilitation of patients who need prosthesis and orthosis is performed by multidisciplinary team which consists of professionals with very different background. Because of this communication between them sometimes is a problem. The ICF covers all aspects and levels of human functioning and was developed as common a language (1). However, there is only one study published on ICF use in P&O clinical practice (2). Koehler and co-authors (3) wrote about core set development for people following amputation and two studies linked outcome measures to ICF (4, 5). From results of our studies (2, 6, 7) it can be concluded that patients have several problems on their functioning which can be well described by ICF (6). ICF can be used in every-day P&O clinical practice. List of all checked categories provides quick additional information. To be able to demonstrate the influence of P&O devices on person’s functioning, at least for activities and participation, one has to use qualifiers, or preferably include some other outcome measures (2). Prosthetist and orthotist found medical records with ICF codes helpful for their work (7). References: 1.International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health.
